In partnership with the faculty UNIP, psychology students participate as volunteers on the project Cuidar. The supervision and coordination it responsibility of the volunteer psychologist, Sônia Ferreira. Each two or three students visit the ALS patients’ home to attend and talk also with their families. “This is a space to listen carefully to the anguishes of all and collaborate to improve the patients wellbeing. They feel sheltered”, explain Sônia.
The project began in 2018 and, today, have a group of 24 professionals in formation. Germania Moura, part of the team, highlight that “people has the need to talk, express their feelings, need help and comprehension. At the same time, we students of psychology, the project is a rich process that allow us to go beyond the traditional session in a closed space. It is a possibility to identify other ways to work as a psychologist.”
To ask for the psychologists team assistance is necessary to write an email to firstname.lastname@example.org, with the subject “Projeto Cuidar”. In the present moment the visits are only for patients with ALS and their families, in the city of Sao Paulo. The Paulo Gontijo Institute has plans to expand the initiative.
