The Paulo Gontijo Award is a Paulo Gontijo Institute initiative since 2007, and have been encouraging and promoting research in the national and international scientific community. Awarded fields are: Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Medicine.
In national level, the prize recognizes studies in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics areas. These awards are evaluated and offered by the best theses published in Brazil. IPG have a partnership with Capes (Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel), foundation within the Ministry of Education in Brazil, in which since 2009 delivery the award during the Capes Theses Grand Prix, event that takes place every year in Brasília (DF).
Medicine PG Award is focus for young researcher around would, who are looking for ALS cause and cure. ALS is a degenerative disease that affects 6-8 people per 1000,000. It´s the third most common neurodegenerative disease, after Alzheimer and Parkinson. This is the disease that affected Mr. Paulo Gontijo, the founder of this institute. PG Medicine award is international and is judged by a commission composed by five well known researchers, respected by international scientific community.
In 2011, due to the importance for international scientific community, PG Medicine Award was recognized and established a partnership with the International Alliance of ALS/MND Associations and the Motor Neuron Disease Association. Since then, the award is delivery during the ALS International Symposium every year. In 2011 the award was delivered in Australia (Sydney); in 2012 United States (Chicago) and 2013 will be in Italy (Milan).
Paulo Gontijo Institute considers this project very important for the real incentive and emphasizes how important the research and advances in Sciences is for the Institute. This project was idealized by the Institute founder and the society recognize move us to develop it.
