Established in 2005, idealized by the physicist and civil engineer Paulo Gotijo (1932-2002), Paulo Gontijo Institute is a private non-profit organization. The institute is composed by the deliberative, audit and advisory council, board of directors, award commission, the administrative team and volunteers.
With the goal to promote scientific study and research that can increase the knowledge about the Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), the IPG actions are based on:
I - Scientific research: Encourage the development of scientific study and research about ALS, through the projects:
PG Award, which recognizes and reward brazilian researches in the field of Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry; world researchers in the field of Medicine.
Researcher exchange program, help young scientist to go to research centers where they can develop knowledge about ALS.
II - Provide support: Disseminate information about ALS by the projects:
Todos por ELA (Everyone for ALS), a website with information about ALS. It is constantly update by specialized health provides, being a reliable source for patients, families, professionals, and others institutions.
Diagnosis Center, will offer specialized treatment for ALS patients, provide by qualified healthcare professionals. Now, IPG have a partnership with AACD (Association for Assistance to Deficient Children), which have a specialized team to follow ALS patients.
III - Humanization: Improve family and patients treatment by professional training and coordinating others ALS organization. To improve patient quality of life we have the project:
Equipment Lending: Offer to ALS patients, assistive technology equipment and a professional to follow up, providing more autonomy for the patient.
